The negotiations on
an international climate agreement in Copenhagen this December are
entering the final stages. In the week to come the last official
negotiations under the UNFCCC before COP15 in Copenhagen will take
place in Barcelona.
Ahead of the UN-meeting, Connie Hedegaard will host the third
edition of the so-called Greenland Dialogue in Barcelona. It will
take place on the 29-31 October 2009. The meeting is the third of
its kind this year following meetings in Greenland in July and New
York in September.
Some 30 countries from all over the world will participate,
including ministers and representatives from China, USA, Brazil,
India, South Africa, Japan, numerous EU-member states, and small
island states.
The goal is to channel the political will from the Greenland
Dialogue into the official negotiations under the UNFCCC and
provide the negotiators with clear political guidance.
The UNFCCC negotiations start on Monday the 2nd of November and
will last through the week until Friday the 6th of November. Danish
Minister for Climate and Energy Connie Hedegaard will give a speech
at the official opening of the negotiations.

“There is only five days left of negotiating before we meet in
Copenhagen. We must use the time wisely, and it will require real
courage from the negotiators to solve some of the crunch issues
this week,” said Connie Hedegaard.
The Press Conference will take place at UNFCCC’s Press Room
at the Conference Center.
