Cutting consumption

The Ministry of Climate, Energy and Building needs to cut its electricity consumption by 15% over the next three years.
On 12
th
September 2008, the previous Climate and Energy Minister agreed to an ambitious plan set out by the Electricity Savings Trust to cut the ministry's electricity use.
The agreement states that the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Building is obliged to cut electricity consumption by the Office of the Minister by 15% by the end of 2011. The reduction is based on the ministry's 2007 consumption of 157,709 kilowatt hours.
In addition, the ministry has also instructed all of its sub agencies and organisations to draw up similar reduction agreements.
The efforts have so far led to the installation of LED office lighting in the Minister's office, in the reception area, in meeting rooms and in corridors. Intelligent power strips for computer equipment have also been installed in all offices, and corridor lighting is controlled by motion sensors.
In order to ensure that the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Building meets its goal, a climate calculation itemising the Office's overall climate footprint will be made.
