The EU has decided to put a price on the CO2-emissions of aviation companies by including them in the European Carbon Trading Scheme from 2012
The inclusion in the trading scheme means that emissions from aviation companies will be subjected to a cap. From 2012 onward, the companies must either buy quota or so-called JI or CDM-credits if their emissions exceed the cap.
"Denmark has pushed to make sure that those who pollute also pay. That will be a reality with this proposal, and it shows that EU is setting the lead on curbing emissions. This agreement will provide an incentive for eco-efficient innovation in aviation companies," said Connie Hedegaard, Danish Minister for Climate and Energy.
