Connie Hedegaard on EU's position in negotiations

21-10-2009

The EU environment ministers today agreed on Council Conclusions in the area of climate ahead of the meeting in Copenhagen.

Danish Minister for Climate and Energy Connie Hedegaard has these comments:

”I’m very happy that we reached an agreement on aviation and shipping, that will ensure that aviation will deliver 10 percent reduction in 2020 and shipping 20 percent compared to 2005 levels. The European Union has reached an ambitious long-term target of 80-95 percent reduction in 2050 compared to 1990-levels.

I would like to commend the Swedish presidency for the good work they put into reaching this result. EU still needs to find an internal solution to the issue of AAUs. What we need in the international negotiations is not hot air, but a real and substantial reduction of our CO2-emissions. But overall, this Wednesday is good news," says Connie Hedegaard.
