The Second Strategic Energy Review

On November 13th 2008 the Commission presented its Second Strategic Energy Review. The Commission proposes as the core of this review an EU Energy Security and Solidarity Action Plan. Furthermore the review takes the first steps to identify the challenges to be faced between 2020 and 2050 and which measures to be taken on the long term.

At the center of the review is a five-point action plan focusing on:

1. Infrastructure and diversification of energy supplies
2. External energy relations
3. Oil and gas stocks and crisis response mechanisms
4. Energy efficiency
5. Making the best use of the EU's indigenous energy ressources

As part of the review the Commission presented an extensive energy package, which among other initatives focuses on strengthening the efforts within energy efficiency.
