A common energy policy for Europe

In spring 2007, a European Council action plan for 2007-2009 titled An Energy Policy for Europe established the overall objectives of European energy policy.

This policy has three objectives:
 

1. to enhance energy security
2. to ensure the competitiveness of European economies
3. to promote environmental sustainability and combat climate change
